But I find that unlike my Canon Raw files it’s hard to improve on the quality the phone’s .jpg algothrith creates. Instead, I just edit the .jpg images directly on the phone with Snapseed and am very happy with what I can do with that. I’m a strong believer in Raw images for DSLR/Mirrorless camera images but for phone shots, the size vs benefit improvement just isn’t there. It may be that the native jpeg/heic camera performs better than any raw shooting app.
My previous phone was an iPhone 8 and I usually got better results with the Lightroom Raw camera. However, my current iPhone 11 supports Deep Fusion. I get better results almost every times from the native jpeg camera app than shooting raw. Deep Fusion simply captures high dynamic range and low light scenes so much better than I call pull from a raw image, even with substantial editing.

That said, if you have an iPhone 12, Apple’s ProRaw format is the way forward. It includes all the benefits of raw plus Deep Fusion.

The app creates a DNG file, that can be easily opened in Photoshop, FS Viewer, Gimp and other image processors.
It features various settings for different formats (square, pano, 4:3), full manual controls, lens selection (for twin and three lens iPhones) plus image processing tools in “The Lab”. Also includes a convenient light box, separate from the Camera Roll for quick image review and editing.
Hope this helps!
Cheers,
Frederic in Montréal.
